Lakeland Dog Runner

Welcome to Lakeland Dog Runner (Starts April 2025)

Hello my name is Johnny French, you may know me from Action-Ants but I also founded Lakeland Dog Runner, a unique *Canicross exercise experience for your dog by taking them for exhilarating runs and hikes in the Eden Valley area. I will deliver sessions in small groups of up to 3 dogs – ensuring your dog gets the full attention you expect.

As an experienced Lakeland Trails Running Series Champion, I have extensive knowledge of the best trail runs in the area to take your beloved dog or dogs running, they will love exploring the exciting and beautiful locations that I take them on. I am also a very experienced Canicross Runner with over 25 years experience in the sport.

*What is Canicross?

Dogs love to run, and the joy multiplies when running together! The sport of running with dogs is known as Canicross, and it is a great way to satisfy your dog's need for exercise. On runs I will use Professional Non-Stop Running Canicross equipment. This includes the very best running belts, bungee leads, and harnesses. You do not need to provide any equipment. If your dog has a good recall and is well behaved off the lead I may let your dog run freely with your authorisation after a few sessions.

My own trail running Border Collie Luna (above), who is the best training partner I could ever wish for, will join us on many of the runs. She is very placid and can be a calming influence on energetic dogs. During an hourly session I will cover anything from 3 to 6 miles (depending on the ability of the dogs), always stopping for poop pick ups, action shots, water breaks and treats along the way.

I always run at a pace that suits the group or the solo running buddy.

I will always try to put your dog into a group that suits their ability and character. Don’t worry If your dog prefers to run solo and not in a group, as I can accommodate this too.  No dog gets left behind! I always run at a pace that suits the group or the solo running buddy. Our sessions are also a great way for your dog make new furry friends.

There may be very hot days that we cannot run (even in Cumbria it can get very hot), but this will not stop us. We will still cover a good hiking distance on some of our favourite trails with plenty of streams and rivers to cool off in. I may also deliver the sessions earlier in the day before it gets too hot.

I always carry plenty of water, a collapsible bowl & first aid for my running pack. Treats too of course! I am Pet First Aid trained, fully ensured and DBS checked. By the end of each session your tired, happy best friend will be dropped back home with dry paws ready for a post run snooze!
